Financial support for businesses impacted by Omicron

Businesses impacted by Omicron can now access additional financial support from the Governement including:

  • One-off grants for businesses in the hospitality and leisure sectors of up to £6,000 per premises (applies in England only).
  • Local authorities have been given access to more than £100 million discretionary funding to support other businesses in financial need.
  • Rebate of the cost of Statutory Sick Pay for Covid-related absences has been reintroduced for SMEs across the UK from 21st December 2021. The end date of this scheme is as yet unknown.
  • Cultural organisations in England will be able to apply for support until March 2022 through an additional £30 million funding through the Culture Recovery Fund.

Statutory Sick Pay Rebate Scheme reintroduced

Small and medium sized employers (with fewer than 250 employees) can be reimbursed statutory sick pay for COVID-related absences, for up to 2 weeks per employee from 21st December 2021, following the reintroduction of the Statutory Sick Pay Rebate Scheme (SSPRS).

In order to be eligible for the rebate, employers must:

  • be UK based
  • employ fewer than 250 employees as of 30 November 2021
  • have a PAYE payroll system as of 30 November 2021 and
  • have already paid their employees’ COVID related statutory sick pay (SSP).
