From 6th April 2014 employers will no longer be able to reclaim SSP.

From 6th April 2014 employers will no longer be able to reclaim SSP paid to employees during sickness absence under the Percentage Threshold Scheme (PTS).
The effect will be far reaching. Last year 100,000 businesses reclaimed SSP under the PTS scheme.
An independent review of sickness absence showed PTS has not encouraged employers to actively manage sickness absence in the workplace and, as a result, the Government is to abolish the scheme and reinvest the money into funding the new Health and Work Service.
Personally, I question the merit of this action. Under the new system not only will a business lose the productivity of a sick worker, but also have to fund that employees SSP. Isn’t business suffering enough?
