Landlords to be forced to pass on energy discount to tenants

energy prices

Under new laws to be introduced, landlords will have to pass on the energy discounts to tenants whose rent is all-inclusive.

The final details are yet to be ironed out, but this must be a light on the horizon for the 585,000 households who stand to benefit. Unfortunately the discounts for many tenants could be delayed as the law is unlikely to be passed before the support package payments begin.

We would recommend that landlords set aside any support payments they receive to ensure they have them available to pass them on later.

This could be the ideal time for landlords who have not already gone digital for their taxes to do so, since it will help them to plan and keep their payments in order. We can recommend some great tools to help landlords with Making Tax Digital (MTD) and also offer our clients a landlord management software package to help manage their portfolio.

If you would like to discuss any of the above or chat to one of our specialist accountants for landlords, do please get in touch.
