Abingdon Accountants making Christmas better

Abingdon accountants donate to SSNAP
Posted 2021 by Jane Loxton

Well done to our Abingdon office who have just made Christmas a little better for the parents and siblings of the babies in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at John Radcliffe hospital. The unit is currently at full capacity with 50 families with babies in SCBU (special care baby unit). Because of Covid, only parents are allowed to visit – a tough call at the best of times, but especially hard on the siblings and grandparents at Christmas.

Our Abingdon office were looking for a charity to support, and because several of our colleagues had had first-hand experience of the SCBU and the positive impact it had on their own lives, they chose to donate to them through SSNAP (Support for the Sick Newborn and their Parents)

SSNAP and the NICU provide support to families and parents at such a difficult time, looking after not only their precious baby, but offering people to talk to from counselors to volunteer parent helpers. The specialist unit looks after babies from all over the UK, including those from multiple births.

They have recently bought 2 new specialist incubators taking the total to 4 meaning that parents of triplets no longer have to choose which of their triplets get the best start in life.

What we donated

SSNAP gave us a list of items which are always welcome, and we also included gifts to the parents such as toiletries, chocolates and treats for the kitchen, presents for the babies like muslins and soft toys, and books and colouring sets for their siblings.

Our hamper will be shared out and given to the parents on Christmas day – just something small to make it a little less tough on Christmas Day when the family can’t all be together.

Thanks to our colleague Jenna who organized the collection and donation of the gifts.

Nic at SSNAP said “Thank you so much for organising such wonderful hampers and presents plus the donation as well. It will make such a difference to all of the families and their babies on the unit.
A huge and heartfelt thanks from everyone at SSNAP
