What lessons can SMEs learn from the arrival of Deepseek?

AI impact on SMEs

In the mid-19th century, Charles Darwin’s observations of finches on the Galápagos Islands led him to a revolutionary idea: survival depends not on strength or intelligence alone, but on the ability to adapt.

In a similar vein, how will the emergence of Deepseek in the AI marketplace affect established players such as Open.AI, Google Deepmind and Perplexity? Only recently it was a case of which of these AI Titans could grow fast enough to dominate the market, but overnight, billions of dollars in value have been lost by the arrival of a firm that had not been heard of a few days ago.

So what can we all learn from this lesson?

History reminds us of businesses that mistook dominance for permanence and adapting to change is critical for all businesses not just tech companies. The answer lies in embracing Darwin’s lesson: survival favours those who respond to change, not those who resist it.

In the end, evolution is neither kind nor cruel—it simply is. Businesses, like species, thrive when they align with the environment in which they exist. For all businesses , the message is clear: innovate or abdicate.
